This article is aimed at self-employed individuals or entrepreneurs who are returning to work after taking time off for parental leave.
Returning to work after six months has been a mix of emotions for me. While I’m happy to be earning money again, I’m also sad that I didn’t have the luxury of 18 months solely dedicated to my baby girl.
For those of you in a similar situation, it’s important to set boundaries with your clients. This could involve communicating your schedule, availability, and any specific needs you may have, such as pumping breaks or flexible hours if you work in an office setting.
Additionally, don’t forget to prioritize self-care. This can be challenging, especially for first-time parents. Setting boundaries isn’t just about protecting your time and energy, but also about recognizing and addressing your personal needs. Taking time for yourself, whether through maintaining friendships, exercising, relaxation, or engaging in social activities, is essential.
While I acknowledge that not everyone has the same support system, I encourage you to try to establish boundaries that allow for a healthy balance between work and personal life. Good luck to all the parents out there!
