San Marco’s Breezys Jazz House was the location for the Northeast Florida National Association of Black Journalist (NEFLNABJ) inaugural ‘Media Noire Scholarship Brunch.’ Hundreds of media professionals, influencers, newscasters, pr/marketing representatives joined in unison to recognize their peers.
The event showcased the chapter’s commitment to college major journalism students, chapter member’s media careers and the First Coast community that they serve. Chapter President Lynn Jones-Turpin was proud of her team, “The smiles and camaraderie of our media friends is an example of what we can do when we come together for a common cause,’ said Jones-Turpin. The days agenda included a breakfast menu brunch, community/chapter award recognition, raffle and scholarship presentation. Rotating on the venues video screens, the chapter presented messages from the National Association of Black Journalist (NABJ) President Ken Lemon and the NABJ Region III Director Eva Coleman. “We want to salute our sponsors, family and friends that fellowshipped with us today. NABJ is the hub for all things media in Jax,” said chapter Vice President WJXT News Anchor Jenese Harris.
Honorees included: JEA Media Team; Florida Blue (Barry Case & Team); Ken Knight award (Obi Umunna, Esq.); Community Award (Breezys Jazz House / Northside Coalition of Jacksonville (Ben & Kelly Frazier); Media awards (Jacksonville Free Press/Rita & Sylvia Perry), Florida/Georgia Star (Eric Simpson and Clara McLaughlin); Chapter Award (Al Pete/MPN Network), for their commitment to Black Media on the First Coast.
The events finale included gift bags from African Pride, a musical set from guitarist Eric Carter and the acceptance of a Jacksonville City Council recognition proclamation from District 14, Councilman Rahman Johnson. To join the chapter and for more info email [email protected].
