Lil Nas X crossed the finish line among 27,000 other runners at the United Airlines New York City Half Marathon on March 17.
Renowned for his eye-catching red carpet ensembles, the “Old Town Road” artist opted for a simple look during the race, donning plain black shorts and a green NYC Half Marathon tee.
However, it was his choice of footwear that stole the spotlight: Coach’s Distressed High Top Sneaker. Priced at $275 on the Coach website, the shoe is currently sold out. Amidst the fashion frenzy, many are left questioning the hype surrounding these sneakers.
Reportedly, the 24-year-old from Georgia had never attempted more than a three-mile run before this event and didn’t own proper running shoes. Upon realizing a nearby sneaker store was closed, he turned to friends who specialize in luxury leather goods for a solution.
Being a Coach brand ambassador since 2022, Lil Nas X was supplied with a pair of Coach’s Distressed High Top Sneakers. These sneakers appeared as though they had already endured a 13-mile trek through the New York City streets. Although not ideal for running, he managed to complete the race in 2:32:53 – though a post-race Epsom salt soak was likely on the agenda.
Reflecting on the experience from a wheelchair, he humorously remarked, “Well, the race went well, it’s giving race.”
