Malika Williams, founder of The L.I.V.E Outreach, is excited to announce an initiative to renovate the Mobile Mentoring Hub, a vital resource that provides educational support to underserved communities. Her organization is asking for the community’s support and funding through an upcoming campaign to bring this vision to life.
The L.I.V.E Outreach, founded in 2014, is committed to “refreshing, renewing, and reviving youth within foster care and underserved communities.” The organization offers assistance with housing, financial support, career development, and life skills training.
Malika Williams, a native Detroiter, has a personal connection to the cause. Growing up in foster care, she became a teen mother at 17 and faced legal challenges early in life. Her dedication to community service shines through in her advocacy work, which includes participating in neighborhood clean-ups and feeding the homeless. To celebrate the organization’s 10-year milestone, The L.I.V.E Outreach recently gave away 60 bikes and 80 kites to families in need on Detroit’s east side.
“I believe that you must be the difference you want to see,” said Malika. “With a focus on education and mentorship, we believe in the power of community support to drive positive change.”
The Mobile Mentoring Hub, a 14-passenger shuttle, provides mentorship, educational resources, and skills training to individuals across the city. However, to enhance its impact, The L.I.V.E Outreach is seeking to renovate the shuttle, creating a more welcoming, functional, and tech-friendly learning environment.
The renovation project will focus on several key areas, including upgrading the vehicle’s interior design, adding new computers and interactive whiteboards, improving safety and accessibility, and expanding educational resources. To accomplish these goals, the organization aims to raise $150,000.
The community is invited to attend a special fundraising launch event on Thursday, October 31st, at United Skates of America in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Attendees will hear more about Malika’s vision and learn how they can contribute. “Together, we can empower individuals through education and mentorship,” Malika added.
Tickets for the event are available on Eventbrite. Donations can be made through the organization’s website, TheLiveOutreach.org, or at the event. Corporate sponsorships, in-kind donations, and volunteer support are also welcomed.
