December 17, 2024, Press Release from the Black Heritage Library & Multicultural Center: The Black Heritage Library & Multicultural Center, 817 Harmon St. Findlay, OH, will host a community Kwanzaa celebration at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Individuals and families are invited for conversations, performances, and arts and crafts celebrating the principles of Kwanzaa. Elizabeth Washington, retired educator, will be speaking about the history, impact, and significance of this holiday.
Kwanzaa is the reinstitution of traditional African agricultural celebrations recognizing the importance of working together and harvesting the first fruits. It is the kind of celebration that is common to most African societies, although it is not taken from any particular geographical region of Africa.
Kwanzaa is celebrated each year from Dec. 26 through Jan. 1. For more information on Kwanzaa, becoming a volunteer, or the celebration, call the Black Heritage Library at 419-788-6794.
