February marks Black History Month, a time to acknowledge the significant contributions of the Black community throughout history. In 2024, the Sacramento Kings actively took part in this important observance by recognizing and promoting Black excellence. This demonstrates the team’s dedication to advancing diversity, inclusion, and equality.
Sacramento Kings Chief Operating Officer Matina Kolokotronis expressed, “We feel privileged to acknowledge the indispensable contributions and influence the Black community has had in history and continues to have in our area. We are dedicated to expanding our support for Black and diverse youth, creating avenues for development while encouraging them to prioritize their well-being.”
During their annual Black History Month game against the Detroit Pistons on February 7, the Kings bestowed the Community Impact Award upon Dr. Gina Warren and Marilyn Woods, co-founders of the Neighborhood Wellness Foundation. Their dedication to addressing social, economic, academic, and health disparities to reduce adversities was lauded.
