La Tonya Ruff, a Black woman from St. Louis, has achieved a heartwarming milestone by officially adopting five siblings she used to babysit after a relentless seven-year effort to reunite and care for them.
Ruff’s connection with the children began in 2012 while babysitting them. She later opened a daycare, unaware that the children entered foster care, missing important moments in their lives.
After the elder siblings, Tiana, Trevione, and Ashton, sought a permanent living arrangement on a television program, Ruff took action to bring the family back together over a span of seven years.
Ruff successfully adopted the younger siblings, Dayton and Ky’La, from birth. The older siblings chose to keep their parents’ names on legal documents in memory of their late father.
In 2022, Ruff gained guardianship of Tiana, and more recently, she obtained guardianship of the two older boys, Ashton and Trevione, completing her mission to reunite the siblings.
The court’s decision means that the siblings can now grow up together under one roof, providing them with the stability and unity they deserve. Ruff’s unwavering dedication highlights the power of love and perseverance in reuniting families.
“I gave them their forever home, and I wouldn’t have it any other way,” said Ruff. “It’s not easy, but knowing the purpose behind it all makes it worth it. We are family.”
