## Here Are The Nominees For Best African Music Performance At The 2024 GRAMMYs
No matter who wins the GRAMMY for Best African Music Performance, they’ll be making history. This category is a breakthrough for the African music industry, celebrating the diversity and richness of Africa. African musicians have had a strong presence at the GRAMMYs, and this year, Nigerian Afrobeats stars Burna Boy, ASAKE, Davido, and Ayra Star have all received nominations.
### “Amapiano” – ASAKE & Olamide
Asake has become hugely popular with just two albums under his belt, due to his charismatic persona and spectacular stage presence. His album “Work of Art” combines amapiano with Mauritian séga music and fújì, an Indigenous Yoruba genre from Nigeria. His song “Amapiano” rearranges elements of the genre and combines them with dynamic rapping from Asake and featured artist Olamide.
### “City Boys” – Burna Boy
Burna Boy, a massive star in Afrobeats, has firmly established himself in the music industry. His track “City Boys” highlights the influence of hip-hop on Afrobeats, with its glamorous and flashy style.
### “UNAVAILABLE” – Davido Featuring Musa Keys
Davido has been promoting the Amapiano genre for a while, and “UNAVAILABLE,” the GRAMMY-nominated single from his album “Timeless,” is a brighter and smoother take on the sound.
### “Rush” – Ayra Starr
Ayra Starr’s track “Rush” gained global attention thanks to TikTok virality. The song boasts a distinctive Afrobeats rhythm and Nigerian pidgin lyrics, with glimmering synths reminiscent of early 2010s electro-pop.
### “Water” – Tyla
The youngest nominee on the list and the lone South African artist, Tyla’s “Water” has captured a broad audience with its crossover appeal, featuring an Amapiano instrumental underneath and confident vocals delivered entirely in English.
The 2024 GRAMMYs, officially known as the 66th GRAMMY Awards, will be held on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, and will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network and stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.
