# Mariah Carey, Lenny Kravitz Receive Global Impact Awards: Recap
Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz were honored at The Recording Academy Honors presented by The Black Music Collective (BMC) in Los Angeles. The event, held on Feb. 1, showcased a star-studded lineup and emotional acceptance speeches, celebrating the contributions of these music icons.
The evening kicked off with a spirited performance by Davido, followed by powerful renditions of classic songs by Andra Day, Gabby Simone, and Erica Campbell. The event’s music supervisor, Adam Blackstone, curated a lineup of notable performances that set the stage for the award presentations.
H.E.R. paid tribute to Lenny Kravitz, acknowledging his influence on her musical journey and thanking him for breaking barriers and inspiring artists like herself. Kravitz shared personal anecdotes and expressed his gratitude for being a part of a lineage that conveys hope and healing through music. The evening culminated with a collaborative performance of “Fly Away” by fellow musicians in honor of Kravitz.
Stevie Wonder took the stage to honor Mariah Carey, expressing his appreciation for her consistent spirit of love. He also performed snippets of his songs dedicated to Carey, emphasizing her impact as a musical hero. Carey, in turn, reflected on her journey in the music industry, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and diversity. She acknowledged the support of her fans and voiced her commitment to championing voices that have been marginalized.
The event also featured performances by Babyface, Busta Rhymes, Tori Kelly, and Yolanda Adams, paying homage to Carey through their renditions of her iconic songs. Additionally, Recording Academy executives, BMC chair Rico Love, and Ryan Butler, the Academy’s vp of diversity, equity, and inclusion, shared remarks during the event.
Before the event, guests were treated to an Icons Gallery curated by music executive and photographer Lenny S, featuring striking black-and-white portraits of influential artists such as Jay-Z and Nipsey Hussle.
