The upcoming series “Black Cake” is based on Charmaine Wilkerson’s bestseller from 2022. The story, a compelling blend of family dynamics and crime investigation, unfolds in various locations such as Jamaica, Rome, Scotland, England, and Southern California.
The plot revolves around Covey (Mia Isaac), a bride who goes missing off the coast of Jamaica in the late 1960s, leaving behind suspicion of either being drowned or on the run after her husband’s alleged murder. Fifty years later, in California, Eleanor Bennett (Chipo Chung) succumbs to cancer, bequeathing a flash drive to her estranged children, Byron (Ashley Thomas) and Benny (Adrienne Warren), containing previously undisclosed stories of her journey from the Caribbean to America. These revelations, narrated by Eleanor, shatter her children’s perceptions of their family’s history.
You can catch the premiere of Black Cake on Hulu on November 1.
